CREATE YOUR OWN CONTENT

Course Overview

This eight-week course empowers actors and content creators to develop their own original material by exploring the fundamentals of storytelling, filmmaking, and production.  Each week, over 3hrs, we will build on the previous, guiding students through concept creation, writing, cinematography, production, and post-production. The program offers students the opportunity for films to be showcased at the AAFTA Emerging Artists Filmmakers Festival in Los Angeles.  Additionally, following post production students can be advised on distribution plans through film festival circuits or even creating their own dedicated YouTube channel for public exposure.Guest Speakers will also be invited to speak throughout the program. Including but not limited to Producers, Directors, Cinematographers, Editors and more.

Creating your own content lets you network, gain experience, and stay relevant in a rapidly evolving industry. Post-pandemic, the entertainment industry has transformed, favoring artists who actively create and innovate.

Key Rules for Content Creation Success

  • Rule #1: Story is Everything
  • Start with limitations to spark creativity. As David Fincher says, "The question is not what you do, but what you don’t do." Define your creative boundaries to focus your vision.

  • Rule #2: Work Within Your Resources
    Use the KRC strategy:
    • Knowledge: Learn from mentors and resources.
    • Resources: Leverage your network, equipment, and locations.
    • Create: Begin with what you have—start small but think big. Reflect and learn from each project.

  • Rule #3: Learn from Experience
    Follow the CQT strategy:
    • Balancing Cost, Quality, and Time teaches the art of creative compromise.
    • Fast and high-quality? It’s expensive. High-quality and cheap? It’s slow. Fast and cheap? Quality suffers—unless you have deep knowledge.

  • Rule #4: Collaboration is Key
Build a team of like-minded creatives. Collaboration fosters lifelong partnerships and stronger storytelling.

Class Structure:

Three hours per week.

Guest Speakers: Professionals from the entertainment industry (writer, director, producer, editor, or cinematographer) will provide insight, mentorship, and answer questions about the industry and content creation.
