The "ART" of being a professional actor requires more than just learning lines and saying them out loud. You must be prepared at all times and an open vessel. It's not about the "PERFORMANCE" rather the 'WORK" done in preparing for the performance. For it's in these opportunities for discovery we build confidence, character and the ability to understand the world so well, we can let go, be present and live truthfully moment to moment to moment.
This is where Scene study is so important. It's the art of analysing scenes and working out what you need to do to really bring the script to life. It’s one of the most fundamental skills any working actor needs in order to bring their performance to a truthful and honest place. Like so many things in this business, deep dive script analysis takes time, effort and commitment. It requires the use of research and development, script analysis and characterisation, physicalisation and of course the voice. The voice tells us so much about a person or character. Where they come from, their personality and how they're feeling. An actor's voice needs versatility communicating a range of emotions. An actor needs excellent breath control so that they won't run out of steam and power midway through a sentence. An actor also needs access to their bodies. Understanding where tension lives, how this impacts performances and where their character leads from.
In the "WORK" Ryan O'Shea is a Certified Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework and will focus on developing Freedom and ease in your body and breath; Connection between what you are emotionally feeling and what you’re expressing; Finding “support” for your voice; Variety in the expression of your voice—in pitch, volume, crying, screaming, singing, and much more—without strain and Vibrancy and presence in performance. We will also explore the Alexander Technique under teacher Brett Hershey who is a full-time, AMSAT certified Alexander Technique (AT) Instructor and Consultant and will focus on Increasing your presence, power, charisma and range; Using your body to create organic characters; Learning how to tune-up your instrument and psycho-physical connection for audition and performance and Transforming stage fright into stage readiness.
