Nika Kljun—a passionate and world renowned choreographer, dancer and influencer—was born and raised in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her parents, who were ballroom dancers, own the well established dance school, Bolero Dance Center. Nika’s father, Zoran Kljun, is the President of the Slovenian Dance Federation, and her mother, Janja Pušl, is a well known television personality, host, and dance judge.
The apple did not fall far from the tree—just like her parents, Nika was destined to be a leader and a big name influencer in her country. Nika, who is now the Slovenian Ambassador of Dance, gained global respect and paved the way for many dancers to come when she was the first to demonstrate that it is possible for a dancer from a small country, such as Slovenia, to achieve international success. A strong, powerful, and successful woman in the entertainment business, Nika has been the recipient of many awards and accolades from Slovenian press and media and has graced the front covers of many magazines, such as Cosmopolitan Magazine. In 2010, she was named Femme Fatale Woman of the Year.
Creating her versatility early on in her career, Nika trained in jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, street jazz, ballroom, and in Latin-American dance styles. She competed with much success, and became a more than 30-time national champion, a European champion, and at age 17, her performance in a hip hop solo made her a World Champion under the IDO organization. As she represented Slovenia internationally, she brought a multitude of international awards to her home country as a dancer and choreographer. Nika also became a main coach for Bolero at age 17, and received high-honor awards from the Slovenian Dance Sport Federation and the National Olympic Committee of Slovenia. At the young age of 15, Nika joined the internationally known dance company, Dance 2XS (UK). Alongside her team, she performed in several shows in Europe and America. Nika was featured in the musical, “Dance Me”, the NRJ Music Awards, the Dome festival, the North American Dance Festival, and performed for the EU Health Ministry Congress. Additionally, Nika continued to build her resume as she was seen in many TV shows and commercials and began teaching internationally.
At age 20, Nika was selected to become a Nike woman—a global spokesperson for the brand—and was the face of multiple international advertisements and campaigns. As it became increasingly clear that she was set to be the best of the best, Nika decided to relocate to Los Angeles to further pursue dance. Upon her arrival, her career skyrocketed.
Nika has worked as a dancer on major projects with Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo, Jason DeRulo, One Direction, Cher Lloyd, Donna Summer, Matt Pokora, Chopstick Brothers and more. Nika has also been featured in several high profile award shows, such as the MTV Video Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the American Music Awards, and the Young Hollywood Awards. She performed live on the primetime television shows, America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, and The X-Factor (USA, UK, and France). Nika also toured with Move Live on Tour (featuring Derek and Julianne Hough), and the Macy’s Glamorama Fashion Tour.
Nika’s resume as a choreographer is also extensive. In 2018, Nika became a choreographer for Britney Spears for her Las Vegas Residency, “Domination”, and brought her unique flavor to many of Spears’ fan-favorite, classic records. Nika also choreographed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony, working closely with Will Smith and Nicky Jam. She also choreographed an opening number for the Ellen Show, which included Sean Hayes—star of the wildly successful and long-running American sitcom, Will and Grace. Nika’s work was also featured in the 2017 Latin Grammys (choreographer for J Balvin feat. French Montana & Steve Aoki, Nicky Jam, Natalia Lafourcade, Juanes feat. Alessia Cara & Logic, Lila Downs), in Mickey Mouse’s 90th Birthday Spectacular (ABC), and on the talent shows, America’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance (USA, Ukraine, Portugal). Nika’s choreography was also featured on the singing competition series “La Banda” on Univision TV (created by Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell). Her choreography work was also featured internationally when she choreographed for the Jacky Cheung “Classic Tour” (Asia). Crossing channels with dance, Nika was also a choreographer for a summer Kellogg campaign.
Despite her industry success, Nika continues to teach dance internationally. She has taught in over 35 countries around the world. Nika frequently sells out classes in Los Angeles, and has been teaching at the world-famous Millennium Dance Complex for almost ten years. Her work can be seen on her YouTube channel, “Nika Kljun”, which has gained over half a million subscribers and features viral videos of her choreography. Currently, Nika is on faculty with the prestigious Dance Convention, “Jump!”, which is the largest dance convention in the world. She has also been on faculty as a choreographer for Monsters of Hip Hop Dance Convention and for Hollywood Dance Jamz Convention. In 2018, Nika launched “Viva La Nika”— her own Jazz Funk intensive under DancerPalooza. The successful specialized intensives receive rave reviews.
Nika’s resume as a dancer, choreographer, and instructor is impressive, but she is equally known for her enthusiasm and passion for dance. Grateful to be in a position to inspire and influence on global level, she absolutely adores sharing her love for dance with hundreds of thousands of students, as she aims to bring them joy, knowledge, and confidence through the art form. Touching the hearts of people of all ages, Nika finds fulfillment in special moments shared with her students. Her uplifting spirit and genuine love for dance are simply irresistibly contagious.
