This beneficial Masterclass allows young actors to explore the art of finding TRUTH in their performance. This course will push actors to engage in scene study, explore and develop their processes, build and create compelling characters using inner monologues & given circumstances, and uncover the importance of Script Analysis, writers, styles and genres of scripts. Learn how to craft the arc of the scene, find emotional connection and discover the importance of timing, focus, and taking direction.
CLASS STRUCTURE - ONLINE
SUN 8.30am - 11.30am (AEST - Sydney/Melbourne)
SAT 3.30pm - 6.30pm (PST - Los Angeles)
Only 16 Young Actors will be selected based on audition or invitation.
8 X 3hr classes including Regular & Guest Teachers
Actors will be assigned monologues and a piece to perform over 6 weeks in pairs. The scene MUST be rehearsed and prepared with their scene partner prior to the course.
Actors will have an additional 4x30min private coaching sessions per pair
Actors will have approx 30-60 minutes of Warm Up & Technical Exercises per class.
Actors will have approx 45-60 minutes up on their feet with prepared scenes in their partners.
Actors & Auditors will have approximated 20 minutes of question time.
Actors will have a week break before final Showcase class.
Attention will be paid to: SCRIPT ANALYSIS, CHARACTER & PHYSICALITY, BREATH & VOICE, ARTIST MINDSET, SENSE MEMORY, PRESENCE, SCENE STUDY, FINDING YOUR PROCESS, DIRECTION, PRESENCE.
WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION
Acting vs How to Act: Truth – the basics; Humanity vs Playing; Idea or stereotype; Find the place where you and your character meet.
WEEK 2: VOICE & DIALECT
The Power of Voice & Movement: Voice, Breath, Dialect and the Body. Guest Voice & Dialect teachers TBC.
WEEK 3: MOVEMENT & ACTION
Alexander Technique, Chekhov & Laban Technique. Guest Teachers TBC.
WEEK 4: UNDERSTANDING TECHNIQUE
Script Analysis: Building and creating a compelling character; Inner Monologues; Beat to Beat & Given Circumstances. Guest: Actor/Director/Established Acting Coach Peter Blackburn
WEEK 5: IMPLEMENTING TECHNIQUE PART 1
Applying the tools: Understanding Private Vs. Public; Film vs. Stage; Choices & Emotions. All actors work. Scenes given to each actor.
WEEK 6: IMPLEMENTING TECHNIQUE PART 2
Applying the tools: Understanding Private Vs. Public; Film vs. Stage; Choices & Emotions. All actors work. Scenes given to each actor.
WEEK 7: CREATING AFFINITIES, CHARACTERISTICS AND COMPLEXES
Intentions; Actions & Script Work. All actors work. Scenes given to each actor.
WEEK 8: PERFORMANCE, TRUTH & TECHNIQUE
The work: Preparation Vs Control; Auditions Vs Performance; Effective Collaboration & Mastering Triggers.Actor Perform for Industry Panel.
